Positive: We loved the house design, the space, the peace and quiet and the view of the sea from the balcony was beautiful. The pool was big enough to swim and relax and our kids enjoyed jumping in right from early morning till nighttime. The hosts were very responsive and kind, they helped us resolve all the issues and gave us great recommendations on the locale. The house is 20min of driving away from one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Europe, Elafonisi, which was why we booked this house in the first place.
Negative: Bugs, the house is in a secluded area and a very small village, surrounded by fields so naturally there are insects and bugs (cockroaches specifically). On the positive side when we contacted the owners they came the next day and disinfected the house additionally. We like spending time in the nature and weren't bothered by this much. A bigger issue is the location, the road to reach the house is narrow and steep down the hill from the main road, driving up and down is nerve wrecking, the nearest shop is 15min away, there is only 1 small restaurant in the village, the next proper restaurant is 15min of driving, nearest gas station 30min away, not to mention if you need a doctor or hospital it is 1.5h away. We were not aware of this before coming so luckily everything worked out OK in the end, but next time we will probably search for a house that is closer to civilization. A car is a must here, but to be fair it is a must for most of the island unless you stay in the hotels in the Norther part of the island.
