Positive: My family and I visited Merlin Grove Suites in Shimla during June 2025. Even though I am experienced at driving on hilly roads, I needed assistance from Mr. Mehta’s son to navigate my car up to the homestay, which is situated quite a distance above the road. Without his help, it would have been somewhat challenging for me. Upon our arrival at the homestay, we immediately felt a positive atmosphere. Mr. Mehta had arranged three spacious rooms for us, two of which had double beds, while the third featured a comfortable sofa, a dining table, a beautifully carved round table, and a mattress with clean linen and cushions suitable for accommodating two adults. The rooms, besides being roomy and clean, were also well-furnished with wardrobes, suitable furniture, artwork, and even a small selection of books. Overall, there was ample space to comfortably host seven people, although our family comprised three adults and two children. One of the bedrooms included an attached bathroom that was both roomy and spotless, stocked with toiletries, fresh towels, and a geyser. Additionally, Mr. Mehta provides a fully equipped kitchen with all necessary utensils at a very reasonable cost for guests to use for cooking; however, since our stay was brief, we chose not to utilize that option. The entire property is encircled by lush green trees that bear fruits like apples, plums, apricots, peaches, and walnuts. There are two exquisite gardens filled with beautiful roses and other flowers, the size and color of which are uncommon in the plains. Mr. Mehta mentioned that these gardens are used for hosting bonfires for guests in the winter, an experience I would definitely love to have someday. Mr. Mehta and his family are outstanding hosts, providing us with some of the most delicious home-cooked meals that are hard to find elsewhere. I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian biryani.
