german village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown columbus, oh Initially platted in 1814 in Columbus' South End, German Village was generally developed between years 1840 and 1914. It was settled largely by German immigrants in the mid-1800s. German descendants at one time comprised as much as one-third of the population of Columbus. Restoration began in 1959 and the Historic District was established in 1963. German Village was the FIRST historic district in the U.S. and it remains a model for all that came after. In the year 1974, German Village joined the Historic Register. Today, more than 1,600 preservations have been completed.

our cottage's architecture is known as a "story-and-a-half vernacular" It has two levels with two bedrooms in what was once a single upper open loft/sleeping area. We recently split the sleeping area into 2 private bedrooms with a new wall and door and additional A/C unit. The ceiling on this level follows the slope of the roof, common in German Village cottages. The main living area sofa can be converted into a full size bed too (bedding in inner compartment).
the sleeping arrangements can accommodate 6, plus the bonus of a pack-n-play for a young child/infant
a full laundry is on the lower level in the historic basement; basic detergent/dryer sheets provided watch your head and step down the old cement stairs (used to be on the exterior - the old "storm" cellar)!
