Positive: We had a wonderful stay! The location of the house is impeccable -- right at the foot of a hiking trail, with bus stop out front, 10mins walk from ferry and Schmilka, 10mins drive to the neighbouring spa town of Bad Schandau. The home is clean, well kept, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need, including thoughtful touches like towels. We were a fairly large group (5+), and never felt crowded or like there was nowhere to sit. The kitchen had everything we needed, with lots of space and surfaces for food preparation. The bedrooms are sizeable, with comfortable beds, square pillows, and tons of storage. There is a little balcony area out back that would be wonderful in summer. The living room and kitchen have big windows overlooking the Elbe, with sun streaming in in the morning. There is lots of artwork, photographs and articles depicting the history of Saxony, showing a deep love of the area. I only wish we could have met the host, to learn more about this beautiful, historic place! The host was otherwise always in quick, clear communication, very kind, and accommodating of my poor German skills. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay and have this magical experience in Schmilka! P.S. Light sleepers will want to pack earplugs, as the house is next to the street and there are lots of beautiful birds in the area who like to sing early in the morning. ;)
