eight canada geese form a flotilla and head to the far shore, reconnoiter on land, then slowly make their way to the small decaying raft beside us on the pier They nibble at the covering of green growth and then depart. The geese have left the raft unstable. Untethered, it floats slowly into the middle of the lake. and then, where?
an alligator (?) with brilliant gold eyes drifts to the middle of the lake, then hides on the far side He is retrieved by kayak, - that thrilling, life-size, plastic alligator head that was meant to keep the geese away.
