Summary: This house is large and quite comfortable although, as has been mentioned by others, the décor and furnishings were rather “tired”. We would, though, like to make the following points: One of our reasons for choosing this house was the beautiful-looking pool. Sadly it doesn’t have a cover and so, despite warm daytime temperatures and the summer having been hot, the water was never more than 16/17 degrees – certainly not warm enough for comfortable swimming. Also the garden had probably looked lovely in June but no attempt had been made with late summer/autumn planting and it was dry, brown and dull. Another minus point was that we found out only at the last minute (when we requested information about arrival arrangements) that no linen (bedding and bathroom, kitchen & tea towels) is provided. As our holiday included plane and train travel this was very inconvenient and we ended up hiring linen locally – an unexpected cost. We note that this has been commented on before but despite the owners’ response two years ago that something would be done we were still told that no linen was available. We have rented many houses over the years. Sometimes they come with a “welcome pack” but even if not there are usually some basic supplies, often left by previous tenants. We have, therefore, always been happy to leave behind items that we haven’t used. Here everything had been cleared away into cupboards marked ‘personal’ and there was nothing – no milk in the fridge, no salt & pepper, no olive oil, not even a single teabag! We had to buy everything, including dishwasher tablets and a box of laundry sachets. There was a 10-page inventory for the house which we had to sign (we have never had to do that before) and “instructions” everywhere, but little to assist us. For example, there were instructions about what to do if the electricity cut out in a storm (very helpful) but no torch provided should that have happened. There were instructions about only using the cleaning products provided for the kitchen and bathroom but very little was supplied. Despite advertising the presence of a fireplace the instructions told us not to use it. (We didn't need it but had the temperature dropped ...) Overall we felt that the bottle of local sparkling wine provided for our arrival did not compensate for the feeling that we were not really welcome in the house.
