It is known for its mine and for the Silberberg. Bodenmais lies deep in the Bavarian Forest, to the south-west, at the foot of the Großer Arber, and has about 3400 inhabitants. Places of interest include the mine at Silberberg and several glass-blowing factories. The largest and most famous is Joska. Beautiful trip destinations are the Großer and Kleiner Arber, the large and small Arber lakes, Zwiesel, Regen, Deggendorf and Sankt Engelmar with a treetop trail and the active centre in Bodenmais. An indoor pool, tennis courts, minigolf and other activities are available, including hiking trails. Bodenmais has a lot to offer both in summer and in winter. It is about 5-10 minutes to the Kurpark and the town centre. All the shopping facilities (Aldi, Rewe, a baker, a butcher) are within a few minutes' walk. There are many local restaurants.
