The cabin, Rosa, is in a secluded spot a few feet from the over 24 thousand square kilometres of beautiful Lake Winnipeg in the summer, and on the lake in the winter.

In 1881, provincial borders extended north, and New Iceland, which was originally in the Northwest Territories, became part of Manitoba, with its original settlement destination being Gimli. Eventually, Icelandic settlers spread out across the province, and Balaton Beach - where Rosa calls home - is a 30-minute drive north of Gimli, a 10-minute drive south-east from Riverton, on the south-west tail of Lake Winnipeg, living with all that history.
