Vintage Nova Scotia oceanfront home in quiet scenic location on the north shore of Nova Scotia with ocean views extending out to PEI. The farmhouse is surrounded by 16 acres of hay fields with a large 2+ acre mowed lawn great for a game of croquet, baseball etc. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 with a queen bed, and 1 with a double bed. Additional children's sleeping area possible on a double day bed in a curtained off "secret place".

Summary: We spent a delightful month at this comfortable, well-appointed waterfront farmhouse with historic features situated on about 16 acres of land. Immediately apparent is how quiet and private it is. You'll also enjoy expansive views of the water, with PEI in the far distance. The best viewpoint is from the top deck of the house. The screened porch also is a great spot to lounge and take in views and the glorious sunset colours. The highlight of the trip for our family were the grey seals. They can be found basking in the sun or swimming just off the shore in front of the property, at least during the time of our stay. If you adore wildlife or you are a keen photographer (or both), you'll love it. There' are also abundant avian species in the area for all you birders. You can swim in front of the property, but the best beach can be found at MacDonald's Cove, only a short 2 min drive from the property or Skinner's Cove, about the same in the opposite direction along New Road. Be certain to keep track of the tides for the best conditions. If you're able to bring a kayak or paddleboard, you'll get to explore the nearby coast, which is mostly a sheltered waterway and remarkably free of motorised vessels. We wish we'd been able to bring ours. The nearby TransCanada trail, a former railway line converted into a mixed-used route, is a must for cyclists, especially those with gravel bikes. The trail can be accessed just south of River John and you can either choose to do short rides, or longer routes all the way to the historic town of Pictou or in the opposite direction, Pugwash via Tatamagouche. Locally, there are numerous museums and attractions within a short drive. Further afield, we took a few day trips to Joggins Fossil cliffs (UNESCO listed site about 1hr 40mins away), Halifax (approximately 1 hour and 40 mins ) and Lunenburg (2hrs 44mins) to sail on the famous Bluenose II. Book your tickets in advance during the peak season) The owners, Aline and Kevin, were perfect hosts and very responsive when we had questions or wanted advice for places to visit. If all of these activities and attractions tick your boxes, then this is the place for you. I'd recommend a longer stay to fully appreciate the location and give yourself time to wind down.
