Much of the valley is pristine, and almost constantly filled with the chirping of birds, should you take the time to listen. Farming is a very important part of the local economy, and seasonal fruits such as mango, star apple, guinep (spanish lime), Jamaican (ataheiti) apple, tamarind, naseberry (sapodilla), June plum (ambarella), guava, sweet sop (sugar apple), Jackfruit!, soursop, tangerine, pomegranate, pineapple, star fruit (carambola), and of course Ackee and Breadfruit, are plentiful when in season. Coconut and sugar cane are must haves, and you should never visit without sitting down to a plate of ackee and saltfish (salted cod) with roasted breadfruit.
