for those of you who want to stay close to home, you’ll have lots of options You might head down the staircase to your private dock and head off in one of the two kayaks available for your use on the lake. You might grab a book and curl up in the hammock or one of the seating areas scattered around the decks. Sunbathing on your dock as you wave at passing boats is a great option, too. If you’re like us, you may just spend hours mesmerized by the diamonds of light reflecting off of the lake below. You might even argue over who gets to do the breakfast dishes since the view of the lake from the kitchen sink makes even chores more enjoyable! Everything at Sunset Point revolves around this incredible lake.
some of you might drive about 15 miles to the rafting and kayaking put-in on the nantahala river The take-out point is about half an hour away at the renowned Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) which is a destination in itself. Maybe the kayakers can meet up with some of the rest of the family that’s been ziplining with NOC or participating in one of the many other adventures there.
the fly fishers in your group may already know that north carolina game and fish named nantahala river as one of the state’s ten best trout streams, and trout unlimited listed it as one of the nation’s top 100 trout streams the lake is also known for smallmouth bass, trout, and walleye, and it has even been stocked with salmon, so who knows when your fisherfolk will return!

everyone can enjoy hiking on the nearby trails The Appalachian Trail and the Bartram Trail cross about eight miles from Sunset Point at the Wayah Bald Tower. Even the less adventurous in your group will decide that the short, paved walk was worth it for the extraordinary three-state view from the tower. And the dedicated hikers in your group can find lots of other trails of varying difficulty throughout the Nantahala Forest.
your whole crew will also enjoy the facilities of lakes end marina (generally open may to october) which is less than two miles away The Marina rents a variety of boats including pontoons/tritoons, ski boats, wakeboard boats, jet skis, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and more. They also offer a great café & grill, a small market, an adventure store, volleyball, horseshoes and more. (Please call to verify hours and check availability, since they’re typically only open Friday through Sunday during slower months.)
if some of you are looking for adventures that don’t involve the great outdoors, you have lots of options Bryson City, North Carolina (less than an hour's drive) is a quaint town that's called the Gateway to the Smokies and is also home to a great scenic railroad. (If you're here from mid-November to December and you have little ones, you can ride the Polar Express!) Blue Ridge, Georgia (about an hour and fifteen minutes away) and Asheville, North Carolina (less than two hours) have thriving arts communities and lots of downtown dining and shopping options. More cosmopolitan Chattanooga, Tennessee or Atlanta, Georgia are both about two and a half hours away. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino (about an hour away) offers gambling and world-class entertainment acts.
when you all gather back home at the end of the day, you can cook dinner on the gas grill on the upper deck, enjoy an amazing dinner, and take in the sunset over lake Plus, you may be serenaded by the chirping frogs! After dinner, you can head inside to gather around one of the two gas fireplaces and wrap yourselves up in some of the comfy throw blankets. Some of you might head downstairs for a game of pool or a movie.
sunset point sleeps a total of twelve guests If you choose one of the two upstairs queen bedrooms, you’ll have adjoining bathrooms and large closets, and the master boasts a wall of windows facing the lake. Your kids will love the bunk room downstairs – with two twin and two queen beds, they’ll pile in laughing and talking until the exhaustion from the days’ activities takes over. Whoever chooses the third queen bedroom downstairs will treasure the wall of windows facing the lake. Since you’ll be at 3,000 feet above sea level, you’ll be cool and comfortable, even in the summer – most nights you’ll probably want to snuggle under a blanket for sleeping.
of course, you’ll have access to the tools of daily life including hairdryers, an iron & ironing board, a whirlpool washer & dryer, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen We also have a Pack ‘n Play and a highchair for our youngest guests. We provide the basics for our furry guests, as well, like food and water dishes.

you’ll enjoy free local/long distance phone service, and satellite televisions in the kitchen/living area upstairs and in the family room on the lower level Please note that you will not have cell service in the immediate area.
be aware that lake levels are low in october through spring which makes the dock unsafe for loading and unloading passengers Let us help make arrangements to dock your boat at the Lakes End Marina until they close for the season sometime in mid-October.
