this whole area was once a number of plantations, including the livaudais plantation It was sold off in parcels to mainly wealthy Americans who did not want to live in the French Quarter with the Creoles. It became a part of the city of Lafayette in 1833, and was annexed by New Orleans in 1852. The district was laid out by New Orleans architect, planner, and surveyor Barthelemy Lafon.

this home is a "shot-gun" style double Meaning it has been divided into 2 separate homes with separate entrances. It is raised so there are about 5 or 6 steps outside to get up to the porch. Inside one bedroom and both bathrooms are located downstairs, the other 2 bedrooms are up a flight of stairs. Because it is a traditional "shot-gun" style home, this means all rooms are lined up in a row and you will walk through one to enter another (aside from the private restrooms).
