Summary: We felt right at home, beginning with the warm welcome from our hosts, Tom and Teresa. The gorgeous views over the nearby golfcourse and forest led us to lunches and suppers on the expansive patio, always enjoying the deer, geese, and occasional rabbit that stopped by. Vancouver Island is a beautiful place to stay, although we are older than average and not quite up to all the hikes possible. We did take an overnight excursion down to Victoria to see museums and Butchart Gardens there, happy to come 'home' to our quiet retreat at Swan Lake. Nearby restaurants also added wonderful cuisine (seafood chowder!) (Nanoose Bay Cafe a plus), though cooking on a hot plate was sometimes a challenge. Altogether, a lovely retreat.
