The former lake is characterised by a population of rare aquatic plants, a black alder biotope and an abundance of amphibians, in particular the strictly protected great crested newt. It is part of the Murellenberge, Murellenschlucht and Schanzenwald impoundment/end moraine landscape, which form part of the Teltownord band.
